When they’re not searching the globe for the best in vintage and contemporary child design, Lora Appleton and Bachman Clem (the co-founders of kinder MODERN) apply their creative expertise to designing and producing their own textiles, furniture, and objects for the family home. Lora and Bachman’s unique collaborative process is fueled by a desire to create innovative and functional products thoughtfully designed to transition from home décor to heirloom.
kinder GROUND, their first product to market, is a luxury geometric modular and large size geometric area rug line designed in collaboration with Inigo Elizalde’s NYC-based studio IE Rugs. Heralded for exceptional quality in custom rug production, Lora and Bachman knew that Elizalde would be the perfect partner to work with to bring kG to market.
kinder GROUND reinvented modular carpet when it debuted to great acclaim at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) 2014 in New York City and its international launch at the Interior Design Show (IDS) 2015 in Toronto, Canada. kG’s first collection of vibrant geometric modular carpet received enthusiastic critical praise and industry awards at both shows, including the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Top Shelf design award for flooring at ICFF and a Designlines Loves commendation at IDS.
Made from 100% New Zealand wool, skilled rug artisans hand-tuft, cut, and carve each made-to-order piece. kG Modular is backed with all-natural tree rubber and jute, completely eliminating the need for rug pads. Visit the kinder GROUND website to learn more about kG’s signature modular shapes, colors, and styles. Collection 2, available now, expands the kG line into large geometric and rectilinear area rugs, as well as bespoke, custom options. In the kG tradition, Collection 2 is also hand-crafted from 100% New Zealand wool and offers an exciting ‘new neutral’ color palette.
