NOTTENE bio.jpg

Nottene (pronounced nuh-ten-uh) grew from Kimberly Ellen Hall’s daily drawings and has transformed into a powerful practice of storytelling through illustration. Nottene strives to find patterns in the small details of everyday life, creating sophisticated hand-screenprinted wallpapers that combine gesture, delicate line work, iconic patterns, and textured brush strokes to bring a sense of intimacy through simplicity to any space. All Nottene wallpapers are hand-drawn in their Philadelphia studio and hand-printed in New York.

With an MA in textiles from Central St. Martins, Hall has drawn or designed for major retail brands and fine arts organizations, including Coach, Hussein Chalayan, Anthropologie, and the Denver Art Museum, among others. Partner Justin Hardison’s background in advertising, client relations, and project management is the perfect complement to Hall’s creative work. He has helped clients such as Reebok, Jaguar/Land Rover, and Sony through his work at Mother London and Tag New York. Together, they create custom illustrations out of their Philadelphia studio.

Nottene's first children's wallpaper line, in collaboration with and available exclusively at kinder MODERN, is whimsical and playful with a sweet element of nostalgia.
