BEFORE & BE AFTER: Growing up design with lucas maassen & sons 2018
Exhibition continues through May 25 at kinder MODERN
kinder MODERN presents a retrospective of Lucas Maassen & Sons for NYCxDesign 2018. Lucas Maassen & Sons is a furniture factory that employs Lucas, and his three sons: Thijme, Julian and Maris, who work via this design/life collaborative engaging conversations through design education, manufacturing, inspiration into form and more.
Come see the work, the process of 3 young boys learning via the brutal world of furniture design and making. This latest version of their design education process deals with inspiration through design, production issues, deadlines and grown-up gallery showing. The boys have used their most recent struggle through their brother Maris's open heart surgery this fall, the inspiration of 'holes and filling/patching holes', hence the success of patching Maris's heart, as the overarching inspiration for this group of work. The works include furniture, ceramics and objects. The Maassen boys have exhibited at Collective Design, kinder MODERN, Jan van Eyck Academie Maastricht, Fei Gallery Guangzhou, and Chamber (NYC).
